Pixie & The Partygrass Boys “Gimme Shelter” – Stones covered

Here’s a theory for you to disregard completely, the real difference between The Beatles and The Rolling Stones was not that one was the clean-cut crew and the other the bad boys of rock.  It’s simpler than that – both start off as great singles bands, The Beatles would evolve into the album band par excellence (The Byrds excepted, obviously) whilst the Stones would remain for a few more years a singles band beyond compare, before their collapse into terminal unimportance.  Can you believe that ‘Some Girls‘ is, apparently, the best-selling Stones album, with ‘Tatto You‘ just a little behind?

Here we find Pixie & the Partygrass Boys giving ‘Gimme Shelter‘ a fine and passionate bluegrassing.  They’re helped out by Andy Hall of The Infamous Stringdusters.  It comes from the band’s new album of covers ‘The Chicken Coop Vol 1.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
