Ring that Olympic bell! Peter Bruntnell’s back with new album and tour

Peter Bruntnell has announced the release of his fourteenth or fifteenth (count them!) album – “Houdini and the Sucker Punch” comes out on October 4th on Domestico Records. It follows in the wake of 2021’s “Journey to the Sun” and a glorious run of form that stretches back to the turn of the century and beyond. Featuring a host of special guests, surely this is the album that catapults him to megastardom – we at AUK can but hope. The lead single and video ‘Out of the Pines’ will be out on August 24th.

The new album sees Peter re-employing his long-term band members Mick Clews (drums), Dave Little (electric guitar) and Peter Noone (bass), along with a number of his favourite musicians. Several tracks feature cameos include pedal steel virtuoso Eric Heywood adding magic to ‘Houdini’, ‘The Flying Monk’ and ‘Stamps Of The World’, Son Volt / Uncle Tupelo’s Jay Farrar playing piano on ‘Sharks’, Peter’s old partner in crime (we suspect quite literally), James Walbourne of The Pretenders tearing up ‘Yellow Gold’, cellist Laura Anstee on ‘Sharks’ and ‘Jimmy Mac’, Son Volt’s Mark Spencer’s Hammond organ and piano on ‘Let There Be A Scar’ and mastering man Peter Linnane touching up the album with some added Hammond organ and synth.

Pete states: “I’m happy to report that the new album is finished, printed, pressed and here at Bruntnell HQ with the due date being October 4th. Mick Clews, Peter Noone and myself had a fab time recording the drums, bass guitar, guitars and vocals at Comrade Jim Lowe’s (Stereophonics, Ghost In A Spitfire) garden studio in deepest Berkshire, before I brought it back to Kingston for some overdubs. It’s more of a straight forward band sounding record that should translate quite well in a live situation, (well that’s what I’m thinking anyway?), made all the more Fantastico with some additional guest appearances that I’m super excited about! ” So are we Pete, so are we.

The album is available to preorder here.  Following on from the release Pete will be on the road September and October with a full band for most shows. Tickets available here

Riding the one eyed horse into dead town the scales fell from his eyes. Music was the only true god at once profane and divine The dust blew through his mind as he considered the offering... And then he scored it out of ten and waited for the world to wake up
