Rob Burger “Valley People” – with Iron & Wine

Well, this is that rare thing, a doubly old new song: Valley People originally started life as an instrumental piece that Rob Burger wrote during a break from a demanding touring stretch. The piece began as a personal reset, “an effort to stay grounded in my truth,” he says. Then it was developed for use in a scene in the HBO series DTF St. Louis. Following this, Rob Burger invited Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) to add vocals.

Sam Beam says of the song: “One of the best parts of making music is working with inspiring collaborators. Rob has been contributing to my songs for years, so I was thrilled to have the chance to contribute to one of his. The piece has such a steady, calming feel, and I wanted the lyrics to reflect that sense of serenity and the imagery within.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
