Well that’s it from us for another week dear reader and while we tend to swerve paying a blind bit of notice to Morrisey these days, the news that Smiths bassist Andy Rourke has died is very sad – for me, when I look back there was a pathway really from the jangle-guitar of The Smiths to americana, and no more so than my favourite Smiths song ‘The Boy with the Thorn in His Side’, the video for which includes Rourke’s legendary bass playing. In a statement posted on Twitter, guitarist Johnny Marr said: “Andy will be remembered as a kind and beautiful soul by those who knew him, and as a supremely gifted musician by music fans.” RIP Andy.
