I don’t often promote myself, but this week marks a bit of a milestone (some may say millstone) as the radio show “Sounds from Beyond the Shed” is celebrating its 100th episode, and to be honest, I’m quite chuffed about it. There have been moments when it’s just felt like a series of interconnected blunders, particularly in the early days, but latterly, I feel that it’s developing its own character, and more than that, its place in the, ahem, sonic environment. I’ve started to meet people, strangers essentially, who say they enjoy it and there are now regular listeners who comment and make suggestions in order that I do not appear completely incompetent. I’ve even been the number one global Mixcloud Americana Show on occasion – bloody hell!
In recognition of this, the 100th show was completely audience-driven, with the whole two hours given over to requests. It was essentially “Junior Choice” without Ed ‘Stewpot’ Stewart and the audience being at least 30 years older, in most cases. It was a blast, and indeed, many requests didn’t make the two hours, so have been filed away for later shows. From day one, it has been about the music, not the bumbling presenter, and from day one, it has been brilliant: going to the studio and talking to a wall. If you haven’t given it a listen, this is the week to start, and if you like it, there are 99 more in the Mixcloud back catalogue. Please enjoy responsibly.
Despite the schedule, I have found time to listen to some lovely stuff this week, including some classic Shack and some new Half Dream both excellent. The radio show? See above… As ever…
