An array of great americana talent features over 4 nights at the O2 Bluesfest in Greenwich, South East London starting on Thursday of this week. The man of whom David Hepworth once said deserved to be carried on a sedan chair for the rest of his life on the basis of the songs he wrote between 1968 and 1972, John Fogerty, former lead singer of Creedence Clearwater Revival, tops the bill on Thursday performing a Creedence greatest hits set – his first headline show in the UK since 2008. He’ll be joined by support act, the Steve Miller Band, who this year celebrate 50 years since the release of debut album, ‘Children of the Future.’
The Friday night features two superstars in the form of former Led Zeppelin frontman, Robert Plant (pictured) and Van Morrison. Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters will be showcasing classic Led Zeppelin material alongside tracks from his acclaimed solo projects, including ‘Carry Fire,’ his eleventh solo album, which was released last October. Meanwhile, Van Morrison returns to the festival for a career-spanning set that will include music from his last studio album, ‘You’re Driving Me Crazy, which is out later this month.
Saturday sees the Zac Brown Band headlining the main arena, backed by special guest, Beth Hart. On the same night The Robert Cray Band will headline the Indigo, supported by Don Bryant, featuring the Bo-Keys.
Closing the festival on the Sunday are Counting Crows, who haven’t toured in the UK since 2014. Of particular interest to Americana UK readers will be support in the form of award-winning US vocalist, Alison Krauss, and singer-songwriter Jake Smith AKA The White Buffalo.
It will be interesting to see if these two will attempt a duet at some point over the weekend:
