Here is an upbeat finish to the week from Noble Jacks, taken from the Deluxe version of ‘Stay Awake’, which is due for release on 27th March. The penultimate night of an extensive UK tour has Sussex-based band Noble Jacks headlining at a bustling, sold out and very enthusiastic Black Heart. If there’s a niche for ‘power folk’ then the band seem prime candidates for that category. They have also thrown ‘BrAmericana’ into the descriptive mix. If we mention that their recent album ‘Stay Awake’ was recorded at The Levellers’ studio, that’s a big hint of one major influence on their sound. As, to this reviewer’s ears, is Seth Lakeman. It’s a beefy rumbustious vibe in the main – indeed they self-assess it as “ something of an antidote to unhappiness” – and it’s not a surprise to see that their career thus far is peppered with many well received festival slots, and foot stomping is pretty much instinctive when they get rolling. In 2017 he started a festival in his hometown of Hassocks, West Sussex featuring two of our greatest loves – Americana music and good beer. The Mid-Sussex Americana beer festival is running for a third year at the Hassocks hotel in East Sussex on the 24th of August and involves a range of established and emerging talent such as William The Conqueror, Danny George Wilson (of Danny and the Champions of the World), Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou, Lucas & King, Jamie Freeman, Loud Mountains, Noble Jacks, Porchlight Smoker and Ben Featherstone. Back for a third time is one of Americana UK’s favourite summertime events – the Mid Sussex Americana and Ale festival. Hosted by James Walker (managing director of Brighthelmstone Promotions and At The Helm records), a number of acts announced for the festival last Friday were Noble Jacks, Danny George Wilson of Danny and the Champions of the World (performing a solo set), Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou, Porchlight Smoker and Ben Featherstone. Today, in an AUK exclusive we can announce that the second wave of acts to appear, include headliners William The Conqueror, alongside Lucas & King and Loud Mountains.
