The Northern Belle “Hell & Back” – where we’re heading

This latest single from The Northern Belle finds the band leaning into their poppier side with ‘Hell & Back‘, which is a jangly, catchy, uptempo pop-tinged Americana tune.  On ‘Hell & Back‘ lead singer Stine Andreassen wrestles with the difficulties of opening up emotionally – and rather than words of friendship…or even love… she’s readier to scream the house down and push the object of her affections further away.  Oh, this could end badly.

‘Hell & Back’ comes from the new album ‘Bats in the Attic’ which will be released on March 8th on Jansen Records.  Several songs on the album draw from a cache of letters sent from her grandfather, when he was at sea and stationed abroad, to her grandmother back home in northern Norway.  Other inspiration came from Andreassen’s experience of becoming a mother for the first time – the creation of life – while others again deal with the opposite, the loss of close friends.

The Northern Belle aren’t a one-person band, alongside Stine Andreassen (vocals, guitars) there’s Bjørnar Ekse Brandseth (guitars, pedal steel), Johanne Flottorp (hardanger fiddle, harmonies), Trym Gjermundbo (drums), Ole-André Sjøgren (guitars, harmonies) and Marie Tveiten (guitars, harmonies).

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
