The Roseline is the musical moniker of singer/songwriter Colin Halliburton, and a myriad collaborators. Over the course of ten years and five albums, The Roseline has forged a sound that is at once familiar and singular.
Can you tell us about yourself? Where you’re from and what you’ve been up to over the past few years?
We’re from Lawrence, Kansas USA. We recently finished our fifth full length album titled “Blood” and it’s coming out October 6th. We recorded it at our local public library’s studio which is free to use with a library card. Just goes to show how dreamy our town can be. 🙂
How would you describe your music?
Somewhat literate, Midwestern, alt-country, bummer music with a hint of hope.
Can you tell us a little bit about your influences?
I think the bands that have influenced our sound the most would be Whiskeytown, Tom Petty, Gram Parsons, Calexico, and Neko Case. Songwriters I admire are John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Conor Oberst, Father John Misty, Neko Case, and Jason Isbell.
What are you currently promoting?
Our new album “Blood” which comes out October 6th.
Have you got a particular song you’ve done that you’re particularly proud of, one that might define you?
I like “Townie” quite a bit. It starts with this Spoon-ish, minimalist groove, which leads to a big, simple Tom Petty-ish chorus. The bridge is tight too. 🙂
What are you currently listening to?
Big Thief “Capacity”, Kevin Morby “City Music”, Jason Isbell “The Nashville Sound”, Kendrick Lamar “Damn”, Jay-Z “4:44”, Conor Oberst “Salutations”
And your favourite album of all time, the one you couldn’t do without?
Rolling Stones “Exile on Main Street”
What are your hopes for your future career?
To tour more without worrying about money so much. To keep writing and recording songs and releasing records.
If money were no object what would be your dream project?
For Paul Thomas Anderson to direct music videos for every song on one of our records.
What’s the best thing about being a musician?
Creating.
And the worst?
Waiting around in a shit hole club for hours.
Finally, have you anything you’d like to say to the readers of Americana UK?
We want to come to the UK!!! We’re so sorry about our president!!!
