Timid, the Brave “St. Maria” – Listen

It’s a gentle folk sound that is embodied on ‘St. Maria‘, the latest single from Hamilton, Ontario-based singer/songwriter Timid, the Brave (aka Tim Selles).  On it he explores the potential for the universe to communicate through symbols – or, at least, the human capacity to find significance in things that are or just happen to be.  As Timid, the Brave explains: “I think we all hit those times in our lives where we’re looking for purpose or direction. The harder you look, the more likely you are to attribute artificial meaning to something that might be senseless or coincidental, or even the result of your own actions.  I wrote ‘St. Maria’ during an uncertain time for me personally a couple years ago. It was the warmest November on record, so warm that the rose bushes had started blooming again.  It felt like one of those moments that could be interpreted as a divine sign, like the universe was trying to tell me something, and afterwards I started seeing meaning everywhere I looked.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
