“Tomorrow Man” Micah P. Hinson announces October album and tour

After years of artistic changes, singer and guitarist Micah P. Hinson returns with “The Tomorrow Man” set to be released on October 31st by Ponderosa Music Records. And it appears that this album is an account of a man coming to terms with his own limits, choices, and past. “The things that once seemed like love had become control,” Hinson explains. “This song symbolizes that moment: the end of one phase and the beginning of another. Freedom has a price and consequences.”

The album purports to be a journey into the heart of an inner America, between pain and redemption, with orchestral sounds curated by the Benevento ensemble led by Raffaele Tiseo and production by Alberto “Asso” Stefana, who gives shape to the layered but never glossy sound. Memphis, Texas, faith, disillusionment, addictions, prison, music as salvation: Hinson takes all of this, and every song is a reflection on pain, identity, and memory.

In early 2020, Hinson almost walked away from his music career. The esoteric Americana / folk singer-songwriter – who divides his time between Texas and Spain – had released ten critically acclaimed albums and built up a loyal fanbase (particularly in Europe), yet he felt trapped and deeply depressed. “It hit me that all I was doing was writing about my previous relationships and situations, and that meant I had nowhere to go,” Hinson says. “How can you progress as a human being into the future if all you’re doing is writing about all the shit that chains you to the past?”

But Hinson’s determination to do things in a radically different way became apparent when he recorded his last album, “I Lie to You”, as he used an outside producer for the first time. Milan, Italy-based Alessandro “Asso” Stefana, who’s worked with PJ Harvey and Mike Patton, steered the songs into a stripped-down style that showcased Hinson’s honest and evocative lyrics. “I was flabbergasted – I was amazed at what he was doing,” Hinson says of Stefana. “It brought new life to what I do.” Stefana also helped Hinson get a deal with Ponderosa Music Records, a well-respected Italian label that had released work for Blonde Redhead, who had so inspired Hinson during his formative years.

“It’s not only my songwriting that changed, but my family life, my views on religion, and my views on politics,” he says. “It’s strange that I decided to make these changes in my life, and then so many amazing, beautiful things came to me. I’ll be forever grateful for whatever happened to bring me to this new place.”

There appears to be something profoundly American in this album, and something equally European in its handcrafted construction. It’s no coincidence that Hinson’s bond with Italy is increasingly strong: here, the artist has found a second creative home, an attentive audience, and a scene ready to welcome him with respect and dedication.
