Annie Fitzgerald’s new song ‘Under the Moon‘ is timed to release just before the total lunar eclipse on the 26th of May. That’s no coincidence, as Fitzgerald has been thinking about the importance of such celestial events in the formation of ritual behaviour. ‘Under the Moon‘ was inspired by a group of Annie’s friends who would meet under the New and Full Moon to hold space for one another. This human connection, she feels, has never been more important than in the past year. “Playing this song grounds me. It reminds me how important presence and connection are–to each other, to spirit, to the moon, to our rituals, to our ancestors, to how we pray and how we heal.”
As well as releasing her own music – Annie Fitzgerald’s second album ‘You & Me & the Sun‘ came out in 2018 – Annie is also a co-founder of the Valkyrie Music Collective based in Minneapolis, which aims to create opportunities for change, balance and community in the music industry. She is also a part of the #MeTooMpls Collective that released a multi-artist record in 2020 as a fundraiser supporting community action to support people who identify as women/femmes/trans/nobinary, to raise awareness around sexual assault and abuse, and to fund Planned Parenthood.
