Track Premiere – Lonesome Shack “New Dream”

Where do dreams come from ?  In the case of Lonesome Shack’s ‘New Dream‘ which we premiere here, the simple answer is from singer and guitar finger-picker Ben Todd.  Digging a little deeper and the rich and sunny country-blues which drifts along at a steady pace as Ben Todd sings that “Tear me away from an old dream /  if I walk long enough I’ll see a new light” might reflect back on his time living in a shack in the New Mexico desert, alone in the Gila Wilderness.  A desire to change, a need to move on to new horizons – but change isn’t easy though: “I walked ’til my feet were torn up”.

New Dreams‘ is taken from the album ‘Desert Dreams‘, out on March 1st on Alive Records.  Lonesome Shack formed in Seattle, and are currently based in London.  Alongside Ben Todd, there’s  Kristian Garrard on drums, and Luke Bergman on bass.  Between them they make a blend of country blues with elements of folk and a gently boogieing rumble in the deeper bass regions, which springs from an appreciation of the classic Canned Heat take on country-blues.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
