Matthew Thomas’ musical story contains an element of courage – in 2022 he quit his full-time job and found himself on the outskirts of Indianapolis with his wife and dog. And a guitar and a bunch of songs that were now more significant as they represented his living. The successful funding of a Kickstarter campaign allowed him to introduce his first EP, ‘Mustangs & Thoroughbreds, Vol. 1,‘ a collection of songs that explored the tension between who we are and who we aspire to be. Now in 2023, Matthew is set to release ‘Mustangs & Thoroughbreds, Vol. 2’, at the heart of which is the poignant single ‘The Waiting Room’, a hopeful yet tragic love song set in rural America.
Matthew Thomas told Americana UK that “Like many of my songs, ‘The Waiting Room’ started as an outlet to express things I couldn’t fully understand. My wife and I were walking through some really hard things personally and just couldn’t see a way forward. It felt like we were living in an emotional waiting room. For anyone that’s had to wait through the painful unknowns of life, it can be exhausting. But what I realized through the process of writing ‘The Waiting Room’ is that we don’t have to wait alone. Sometimes all that we can do is let time heal the wounds. And that healing process is always much more hopeful when it happens with people that we love.”
