And there’s the ever spine-tingling pleasure of Anne Gilpin’s Marxophone. ‘Lazy Bird‘ takes all these elements – as well as Robert Jessett’s nylon-string guitar work and the woozy harmonies of Jessett and Gilpin to create a shimmering song which mixes a melancholic end-of-the-summer reflection with a gentle acceptance of whatever is to come. It’s a gorgeous piece.
Morton Valence told Americana UK of their pleasure of recording again with BJ Cole – who has played with the likes of Scot Walker, John Cale, REM, Elton John and so mnay more over fifty years or so – saying “he really is in fine form on this one – we clearly have a thing about guitar heroes.”
