Old punk musicians never die they just become roots music troubadours.
To his friends on the Americana UK team, he is Cam Fraser, a knowledgeable music writer who is proud of his Scottish heritage. However, he has also been making music for most of his adult life, and Boulder Fields is Cam Fraser and his songs with support from musical friends. “With All The Other Ghosts” is Boulder Fields’ debut album, and in case anyone thinks that Americana UK’s coverage is down to any sense of favouritism, readers of Mojo and Uncut will have seen the four-star reviews the album got. Americana UK’s Martin Johnson caught up with Cam at home over Zoom to discuss “With All The Other Ghosts”, and to try and get an insight as to what it takes to maintain a lifelong passion for making music that has taken in punk, indie, folk and americana. Cam illustrates his story with a number of anecdotes, including supporting Nirvana on their 1989 breakthrough tour. Finally, he also gives an insider view of Americana UK and admits to still occasionally turning it up to eleven when he is alone in the car.
