Track Premiere: Nicholas Mudd “A Lover And A Drunkard”

I got a whisky in my hand I got you on my mind” sings Nicholas Mudd on this rootsy piece of Outlaw leaning country, adding “I’d love to sleep with you tonight and I’d love to sober up / But if I’m honest with myself I know the odds ain’t too good.”  Seems that he really needs to choose one way or another – because trying to be both a lover and a drunkard is taking its toll.

A Lover and a Drunkard‘ comes from Mudd’s new album ‘Living and Dying‘ which should be appearing this Autumn.  The song features Lee Carroll (keys), Robby Cosenza (drums), J. Tom Hnatow (bass, pedal steel), Laur Joamets (electric guitar), Maggie Lander (backup vocals), Nicholas Mudd (acoustic guitar, vocals) and Steven Stewart (fiddle).  It was produced by Duane Lundy at Lexington Recording Co.  Which is where Nicholas Mudd grew up – not the studio, Lexington.  Growing up in Kentucky he was surrounded by horse country and lush farmland, and Mudd found himself immersed in country, southern rock, and traditional folk music. His early bands were more in the folky vein, but he finds himself now leaning towards the neo-traditionalist country style of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.

We love a genre subdivision here at Americana UK.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
