Trippers And Askers “Making Forests” – Multi-layered funky grooves

Inspired by Octavia Butler’s science fiction novel ‘Parable of the Sower‘, Trippers and Askers have recorded the album ‘Acorn‘ which explores the themes of the book and at the same time takes Americana on a journey into new and exciting sounds.  Trippers and Askers is a project of Jay Hammond, with the band including include members of Wye Oak, Califone and former Sun Ra member Ken Moshesh.

The music that’s created reflects the world of Butler’s novel, which was written in the 1990’s and set in 2020’s U.S.A when society has collapsed for everyone but the super-wealthy due to climate change, wealth inequality, religious fundamentalism, and corporate greed.   It’s a sound that lingers on the fringes of memory, and calls the listener back repeatedly.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
