Turn on, tune in and enjoy – Black Deer launch their “Americana Radio Station” for the people!

Just too late for Tim Martin’s excellent radio/podcast piece Black Deer Live, the organisation behind the fan favourite festival that takes place in Eridge Park, Kent every June have now launched the radio station announced by AUK in April. The station broadcasts all day every day and features a playlist that should be right up the street of readers of these pages as well as everyone else! It launched officially on August 1st as they waited to ensure that downloadable mobile apps were present and correct both for Apple and Android devices as well as being available to play on Amazon Echo, Google Home speakers and Apple HomePod/CarPlay. The station is being run in conjunction with Black Deer Live which are hosting several Americana events at small venues around the UK with plans for many, many more. Recent gigs include Gary Louris, Morganway, Scott Matthews and Darlingside to name but a few. The radio station will be using recordings from these events as well as interviews from many of the acts that played at this year’s festival.

Black Deer Festival co- founder Gill Tee and now one of the team behind the creation of  the radio station states: “We have been working hard to get our radio station, with a trusted professional team, up and running, and it’s time to ask our friends to tune in and give it a try!!”

The radio player app. features some interesting stuff including the ability to purchase tracks as well as a facility to see what tracks have been played over the previous hours and days. There is also the opportunity for the listener to affect the playlist with each track featuring an icon containing  thumbs up or down for listeners to vote on. There are hourly music news spots and a schedule for all artist interview broadcasts as well as plans for much, much more as the station develops.
