Video: Black Deer Festival – Far From Saints

For today’s video, we’re celebrating another act we’re looking forward to performing at Black Deer Festival this weekend.  Building on their recent debut single (check it out here), Far From Saints deliver another stunning song in ‘Screaming Hallelujah’.  Once again, it’s engagingly melodic and a great vehicle for the dynamic vocal pairing of Kelly Jones and Patty Lynn.  Jones’s voice is typically characterful but it’s the blend when they sing together that is particularly striking and focuses attention on the finely crafted lyrics: “A death and reborn. // What was is now gone // The version of you, I knew // Has grown butterfly wings and flown.”  It’s about accepting a loved one while they go through a difficult transition, as Jones explains: “It’s about change and growth, but with all the struggles that come with that. With every song I write, I try to write about the whole struggle but leave a light at the end of the tunnel.”  Lynn adds: “I was thinking about how we should try to grow right along with them, because they’re still here.”  Beginning with delicate, fluttering acoustic guitar, the song steadily grows over a shuffling, swaying rhythm until it soars.

‘Screaming Hallelujah’ appears on Far From Saints’ self-titled debut album, which is released tomorrow, 16th June 2023, when they also will be performing live at Black Deer.  It promises to be a special, celebratory show.  Check out this video, directed by Kelly Jones himself, while eagerly anticipating Far From Saints’ Black Deer festival debut.
