Video: Liv Greene “Deep Feeler”

Liv Greene’s latest single is, simply, a beautiful, affirming song.  The melody flows and Greene’s vocal performance is subtly engaging and memorable as she delivers relatable, smartly-written lyrics.  The opening line gets right to the heart of ‘Deep Feeler’: “I’m aware I’m a liar // Always lying to myself about my expectations.”  The pressure we place on ourselves to be perfect can be unbearable and Greene’s message of self-acceptance is an important one as she faces up to her imperfections, while navigating life’s challenges and celebrating her identity as a young, queer woman in an uncertain world.

Greene explains the song’s themes: “I’d been toying with the idea of a song that’s kind of like a manifesto.  Like, yeah, I know I’m a little delusional. I have relational trauma. I fall really hard and get hurt all the time because of it. But I am who I am, and I’m proud of that. I am proud of how deeply I feel things.”  There’s an innocent joy in the accompanying video, directed and edited by Molly Trunnell.  As Greene skates through the streets, the sense of freedom matches that feeling when you accept yourself for who you are and begin to live life to the full.

This is the title track from Greene’s forthcoming sophomore album, due out on 18th October via Free Dirt Records.  The follow-up to 2020’s ‘Every Bright Penny’ features GRAMMY-winning Sarah Jarosz, who needs no introduction to our readers, delivering gorgeous harmonies and playing mandolin.  After touring together, it’s a collaboration that feels natural and the result is an outstanding combination of gifted  musicianship and fine song-craft.  Look out for the album later this year.
