Video: Mackenzie Shivers “One Headlight” – music locked inside that needs out

Be absorbed by One Headlight, the recent single from Mackenzie Shivers. Gentle notes of piano draw us in quietly, while subtle instrumentation adds textures and depths, and One Headlight grows slowly and steadily into a deeply affecting song. At the heart of One Headlight is Shivers’ haunting, beautifully controlled vocal performance. Her tone and ethereal melody create a sense of intimacy, and, reinforced by the delicate accompaniment, she transports us to another place. In the video for One Headlight, Shivers dances across a breathtakingly beautiful, but bleak, landscape. It’s an elegant visual that mirrors the grace in Shivers’ music.

At just four years old, Mackenzie Shivers began playing the piano, telling her mother that she had, “…music locked inside of her that needed to come out.” Classically trained, Shivers is both an expert pianist and a highly accomplished songwriter, crafting poignant, evocative songs that linger and provoke reflection. And again, her voice rises and falls with exquisite beauty over her cinematic alt-folk soundscapes.

One Headlight features on Shivers’ brand new EP, Everything’s A Vibe, available exclusively on BandCamp here. The EP is part of a greater album, due for release later in 2026. Enjoy.
