Video Premiere: Catherine Campbell “Too Late”

Check out the latest single from singer-songwriter Catherine Campbell, based in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Over delicately picked guitar, the instrumentation slowly swells beneath Campbell’s gorgeously-melodic, yet-understated, voice.  It’s an excellent vocal performance that feels intimate and showcases her range.  Almost spoken at times, Campbell’s delivery draws in the listener and we drift through the song with her.

From the opening lines, there is a feeling of regret and missed opportunity: “A hundred books // I’ve never read…A hundred trips // I never took,” and yet as the song progresses, it is infused with hope and possibility.  After all, she does not sing about it being too late to follow her dreams.  Instead, in her life-affirming words, she sings: “I have maps of every place // I have never been // And if // I open the door // I’d see just maybe // It’s not too late.”  It’s an idea she repeats as the backing vocals rise up, giving it strength.  The video, directed by Joe Dean Hinkle, is beautifully-shot, a soft-focus journey through Campbell’s thoughtful lyrics.

‘Too Late’ is Campbell’s second single since her 2022 EP ‘Leave No Trace’, which was a romantic escape from reality.  We look forward to more of her hypnotically-dreamy indie-folk soon.
