Video Premiere: Phil Gammage “Right On”

Here’s the latest video from New York singer-songwriter Phil Gammage.  ‘Right On’ features a full band, including Brian Hack on guitar, David Fleming on harmonica and backing vocals, more backing vocals from Joe Nieves, Jeff Gordon’s bass and Michael Fox on the drums.  Collectively, the group bring lots of energy to the song, which soars in the chorus.  Those honky tonk layers make a great soundtrack to a night out and also provide a solid foundation for Gammage’s sonorous, deep voice, perfect for a country singalong.   The video, produced by PreFab International Ciné with cinematography by Roberta Lee, captures Phil and the band bringing lots of fun and companionship to their musical performance.

Gammage told AUK about the song and video: “The video was filmed on a fun evening at one of our favorite NYC venues and hang outs — Cowgirl Seahorse near the South Street Seaport in New York City. We play their Monday Night Music Series regularly. Monday is an off night for most musicians, so it’s always a great scene down there with our friends relaxing and socialising. I wanted the video to capture the vibe and informality of our live shows, and I think we did that and then some. It shows off the band at it partying best…and having a good time playing music and gambling with the cards.  The song starts off as a porch stomper with just guitar, voice, and harp. Then the band kicks in and it becomes more honky tonk style. It’s always a live favourite.”

‘Right On’ is a single from Gammage’s upcoming album ‘Redeemed’, which will be his ninth full studio album and is expected to drop in February 2024. In the meantime, he plans to release a free  live album, available for a limited time only.  Gammage says of the live release: “The tracks are live recordings from a couple of good shows from the past year. Very rowdy and fun with a lot of interplay between us and the audience. It will be a holiday gift to our fans and perhaps make us some new ones. The song list will be split between my originals and select cover songs we love playing. Plans are to have it available in December only. We’re still working with the tracks in the studio to make them sound their best.”  Keep a look out for this – it promises to capture all the energy and camaraderie of his shows.  For more info’ about Gammage and his music, check out his website here and Bandcamp page here.  Enjoy.
