Taken from Phil Gammage’s eighth solo album, ‘It’s all Real Good’, this song tells the tale of the legendary 19th century New Yorker, Hellcat Maggie. It begins with an atmospheric strum and features Gammage’s sonorous vocal and the distinctive sounds of Kenny Margolis’s accordion, lending the piece a real old-time feel that is reinforced by the silent movie-style video. Genuine silent movie footage is combined with intertitle cards, used to display dialogue and exposition back in the silent film era; here, they’re used cleverly for the song lyrics. We’re delighted to share the exclusive, online video premiere for ‘Hellcat Maggie’.
