Here’s the latest single from Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter Samuel Wilbur. ‘Everything is Falling Apart’ is an apocalyptic anthem for holding onto love, hope and everything that matters when the world is unravelling around us. The song builds towards a triumphant climax, with soaring harmonies and instrumentation. Throughout, the real highlight is Wilbur’s distinctive voice, which is really compelling, particularly when delivered in textured vocal layers.
Directed by Will Prescott, the well-shot video follows Wilbur as he overcomes obstacles and perseveres on an epic journey to retrieve his forgotten guitar and – more importantly – reunite with his love. Like the music, it’s uplifting and made with an endearing sense of fun and joy.
Wilbur is following up his 2024 album “The Age” with a 13-track concept album “Ivory Tower”, which is themed around his passion for environmental issues. Featuring additional vocals from Meghan Kreidler, Dani Michaele and Laura Kiernan, the songs cover everything from the rise of the billionaire class and fascism to the ubiquitous nature of AI and new technologies, all of which contribute to the climate crisis. It’s a thoughtful reflection on the state of modern America and, indeed, the world. Wilbur and his band combat these issues with wit, lyricism, lush harmonies, catchy riffs and melodies. Alongside songwriting, Wilbur is a High School history and journalism teacher, who applies his critical knowledge of the past to today’s real-world issues – it’s a perfect grounding for writing meaningful songs. Enjoy.
