Here’s the video for Toronto songwriter Stan Simon’s new single, ‘Long Way Past Gone’. Written shortly before the passing of Simon’s father, this open-hearted song is full of grief-stricken emotion. Simon explains what it means to him: “This song took on new meaning after he died. It’s about feeling far beyond the point of return. There’s numbness, resignation, and the sense of being broken in ways that can’t be fixed. I wanted to paint a picture of someone who is emotionally disconnected from life but also still reaching for meaning through the fog.” The bending, sliding notes and forlorn tune sound as weary and worn as Simon’s poetic words and imagery, and a haunting sense of mourning is threaded through the song’s layers.
‘Long Way Past Gone’ is the lead single from Simon’s forthcoming EP, which is due out on 9th July via Slammin’ Media. “Narrow Bridge” explores themes of climate change, fatherhood, loss and grief through Simon’s direct, personal words and folk-influenced Americana. Recorded before a period of personal upheaval, Simon waited until the time felt right before releasing the new collection. He says, “The album sat quietly for a while. Music didn’t matter to me in the same way for a bit. But as I started writing new material, I realised I couldn’t just leave this chapter behind, it needed to be shared.” Be absorbed by Stan Simon’s meaningful, introspective words and music.
