Check out the new single from alt-rocker Stephen Jacques.  ‘Symphony of Freaks’ is an an absorbing, upbeat song, featuring rolling drums, warm bass  and a rhythmic strum.  Over these sonic layers, twanging lead guitar and flowing fiddle surge along and Jacques’ characterful, gritty voice takes us through the ups and downs of the main character’s life.  Both the sound and words drive on, a real ride of a song.

Jacques told AUK about the song: “Distilled, this is a finely produced gem of a tune addressing the trials and tribulations of falling down and getting back up, the vicissitudes of a new love, a new job, or the next gig; aren’t we all trying to find our sweet spot? In this lyrical case, we have a southern boy hitting the farm towns – giving his best shot;  a whirl with the guitar ‘n’  keyboards and his band- a true symphony of freaks, and their gig life.  Then a quick stint with a circus troupe. Then a ghost visit in the middle of the night, like a bolt of lightning for self-reflection, a shock wave testing his soul of souls. Intentions, decisions, the new paths we take.  A young man with a little redneck inside him, can’t fight it off, yet a gent of good intentions. We learn his, ‘…mind is a spaceship full of love, just let it glow, take that route.’. A Hemingway protagonist may come to mind after a listen or two.”

Inspired by his multi-instrumentalist Italian grandfather from New York in the 1920s and his Aunt Carole, a talented singer, as well as a childhood raised on rock music from live gigs and TV shows like Johnny Carson and Saturday Night Live, Stephen Jacques channels all his influences into his rollicking alt-rock’n’roll style.  This single is taken from the brand new album, ‘Send Them Love’, which dropped earlier in September 2022.  His tenth release is a collaboration with indie producers Alan Weatherhead and John Morand.  After a career in engineering, building and acting, Jacques’ music began pouring out in 2010 and since then, the prolific songwriter hasn’t stopped.  There have been many releases with his band Box of Moxie alongside his solo material, all receiving regular airplay on radio stations in the USA.  This will get you moving.  Enjoy.
