Check out the dreamy debut single from UK Americana band Rivertown. Based amongst the mountains and valleys of North Wales, the band features three singers and songwriters; their harmony vocals are subtle, understated and absorbing. ‘Somebody’ was written by lead guitarist Cliff Howard, whose bright guitar sound is at the heart of the song, which has a laid-back 1960’s vibe. A highlight of ‘Somebody’ is the gorgeous pedal steel from Gwyndaf Williams, a masterful musician who has spent 50 years in the music business, including playing with Crysbas, the first Welsh band to play live on Radio Cymru. His woozy notes bend and flow and tumble – it’s a privilege to watch him at work in the accompanying video. That infectious groove comes from Ullrich ‘Oggi’ Cox on the drums alongside Colin Bass’s smooth, melodic bass guitar. The band is completed by singer-songwriter Jonathan Smith.
All the band members bring their own talents and experiences as solo artists or members of other bands. Together, they blend their influences well and display excellent song craft as well as technical skill. This is the first single from a planned EP or ‘mini-album’, which we can expect to see by early 2025. In the meantime, you can catch the band live at their usual haunts along the coast of North Wales.
Indeed – wonderful song!
