Check out “Cuckoo”, the new single from Indiana-born, Nashville-based Stephen Wilson Jr. It’s a high-energy song, driven by an urgent rhythm and Wilson Jr.’s relentless flow of words as he rails against all that life throws at us. When he sings: “Life is a road and it’s all uphill,” many of us will relate to the sentiment. Wilson Jr. explains: “We’re all afraid of something. This video is a fiery glance at the ones whom haven’t given up but have given up on the game. These are not actors. A kaleidoscope of humans living and being. Unashamed of their shame. ‘Cuckoo…'”
The video, directed by Tim Cofield, features HARDY and Wilson Jr. using shovels to play catch with a ball of fire. Just like the song, the video moves along at a restless pace. Cofield says: “‘Cuckoo’ is the eighth video Stephen and I have made together. While ‘Holler from the Holler’ was the most ambitious concept we’ve co-directed, ‘Cuckoo’ is a planet in its own solar system. All these ideas come from Stephen’s brain. For example, the character driving backwards in the truck. Stephen actually knows a guy who has to drive to work backwards ’cause his truck only drives in reverse. My favourite thing about the ‘Cuckoo’ video is that all these characters you see are real people, not actors. There’s also some Easter eggs hidden in there for die-hard fans (look for wolf heads and aliens).”
Last year, Wilson Jr. released “søn of dad”, his well-received debut album. With millions of views on social media and being named by the Tennessean as one of the Top Nashville artists to watch in 2025, Wilson Jr. is a rising star who delivers a stirring blend of Gothic country and gritty rock. Enjoy.
