Wicca Phase Springs Eternal is the performance name for Pennsylvania-based singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Adam Andrzejewski, who has previously produced music in the not very Americana adjacent rap/electronic musical genre. And yet on the recently released album ‘Mossy Oak Shadow’ we find ourselves not just adjacent to, but very much in the depths of an Americana sound. How strange – or maybe not strange at all as Andrzejewski expounds on his work saying : “I always kind of thought that as long as I have the Wicca Phase Springs Eternal name that I can do whatever I want. The name provides a framework for the lyrics and aesthetics of the project–my songwriting with a mystical overlay to it–and as long as I can make something work within that, then the genre doesn’t totally matter.” Yeah, that makes sense.
And even more so when Andrzejewski speaks of other artists that he admires, saying things like: “Dylan, Will Oldman, Richard Thompson–what I like most about those songwriters is that I’m able to trust them, if they do something that’s totally strange I trust that they know what they’re doing because it’s coming from the same person that wrote all these other songs that I love. So even if it might take some time for me to get where they are, I want to try.” Yeah, now it really makes sense.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
