Well what can you say about this week which hasn’t already been said? It sounds bleak to acknowledge it but the world feels like it’s on the precipice of some really dark times. Of course for people in Gaza and other areas of conflict, the darkness arrived some time ago, but things look like they’re going to get even worse for them, however difficult that is to imagine. And for minorities in the US, there is a storm coming which will require coordinated and persistent action in their defence. Even beginning to think about the next four years is overwhelming.
It’s good to remind ourselves then that we have been here before and come through it. Environmentalist presenter Chris Packham said yesterday: “Things have just got a lot more difficult. Here’s what I think. I had no control over what just happened. None. But I do have control over how I will react to it. And I am not going to give up on the beautiful and the good, the grip on my dreams just got tighter.” Without hopefully sounding too corny, maybe we all need to grip not just our dreams but each other a bit tighter right now. We leave you this week with a song of comfort representing the eternal struggle for justice and peace. Take care everyone and see you next week.
Amen to all of that
