Joel David Weir is an Indiana based singer/songwriter who pulls on the same inspiration as early Dylan and good folks like Woody Guthrie. He write’s songs that comment on the times, and there’s certainly a lot of inspiration for a songwriter crafting in that sphere these days, and then some. This song came to him a week after the American election result was announced, and reveals Joel David Weir as someone who doesn’t necessarily agree with a lot of the things that are happening in his homeland.
Not only did the song come quick but a recording followed within an hour and rapidly became his most streamed song. He says that: “Most everybody knows that we are going through some tumultuous times in the States. A lot of us are really worried about the growing division and what that’s going to mean for the most vulnerable among us. This song came to me very quickly one morning – I almost felt like the ghost of Woody Guthrie was looking right at me and saying ‘Get to work!'” The response in the US so far has been tremendous. I think it struck a chord, or maybe a nerve, or maybe both, but its quickly become my most listened to song in a short amount of time.”
