Video: Glitterfox “Gamma Ray”

Glitterfox channel a range of influences, from americana to garage rock, in their latest single. ‘Gamma Ray’ is a burst of sonic energy from start to finish, once again showcasing Solange Igoa’s incredible vocal melodies, which are instantly absorbing, feeling like the well-known tune from a much-loved song while also feeling fresh and new. The accompanying video, directed by Kaylee Kotkins, is based on the personas that wrestlers create, the identities they present to the world when they meet in the ring. The good-humoured visual shares the energy, drive and vibrant colour of the song.

Many will have first-hand experience of the song’s lyrical theme: the heartache of wanting someone that you can’t have. Songwriter Andrea Walker explains: “It’s a song about obsessive thoughts and how distressing they can be; wanting to feel differently and knowing that the only remedy is time.”

At the heart of Glitterfox is the musical chemistry of frontperson Solange Igoa (they/them) and guitarist Andrea Walker (they/them), who were a couple for twelve years, six of them married. Despite their amicable split, the pair continue to produce music together, such is their creative connection. ‘Gamma Ray’ appears on the brand new album “Decoder”, which was produced by Chris Funk of The Decemberists. Originally formed in Long Beach, California, Glitterfox is now based in Portland, Oregon, where they met Funk and launched Portland’s indie-music festival Glitterfest in 2019, which also doubled as the pair’s wedding reception. After a succession of acclaimed EPs and singles over the last few years, “Decoder” is essential listening, and Glitterfox are definitely a band to watch. Enjoy.
