You may have wondered what had happened to Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee – who we know better as The Lowest Pair: and, simply, we don’t know why but after a four year pause in recording they’ve got a new album, “Always As Young As We’ll Ever Be”, ready to go and this is the first track and first single from it. We do know a little about the song since Kendl Winter has spoken of it, saying: “It’s this idea of cycles and knowing there’s dark and light, and it’s going to change. When it’s good, notice it. When it’s bad, know it’s going to change. I spend a lot of time reminding myself that–and still being surprised by it.”
There’s a slight change in sound for The Lowest Pair, which can be attributed to the addition of more musicians to the recording process, including Leif Karlstrom (fiddle), Sydney Nash (bass/piano) and Adam Roszkiewicz (guitar, mandolin, synth). They also brought in Tucker Martine, producer to the americana inclined, to help steer the record in the direction they wanted. That’s all in keeping with the spiritual theme to the new release, with the duo viewing “Always As Young As We’ll Ever Be” as a kind of spiritual metamorphosis with each song working like a different stage in the shedding of old skins and experiences, and by implication an absorption of the possibilities of new experiences.
