Video Premiere: The Makers Out “Holy Water”

The new video release of ‘Holy Water’ from The Makers Out is a song of ethereal beauty, renewed and lifted by a performance in a truly magical location. Directed and filmed by Logan Miller, the video was shot inside the Silver Seed dome in Tulsa, an art installation that was actually created by the band’s leader, Scott Bell. Already a transporting song, this immersive version – presented in such a visually stunning space – becomes something transcendent. While Bell’s guitar and voice are the heart of ‘Holy Water’, the captivating instrumentation and arrangement make it into a subtly glorious hymn, rising on currents of backing vocals. Olivia McGraw and Kiersten Moser deliver sweet violin notes, floating alongside David Broome’s synths and Chris Wylie’s gentle rhythms, all combining above the wonderfully resonant, low depths of Matt Magerkurth’s cello.

A reflection on renewal and rebirth, the song’s message and feel are reinforced by this spellbinding video, itself an effective piece of visual art. The Makers Out have produced a short film here to give a greater sense of what the immersive light and sound installation is like; the Silver Seed helps take us into a dream-space, perfect for the band’s cosmic American sound. ‘Holy Water’ is the opening track on the band’s most recent album, 2024’s “Bloodlines/Hope”, given a brand new treatment here. This should prompt you to head back and check out the album if you haven’t already. Lose yourself in this.
