Steve Forbert has everything going on

It’s true – Steve Forbert in his 40th year in music has just about everything going on, about to happen or coming up soon.   Let’s start with the new album. ‘The Magic Tree’ is out October 26th on Blue Rose Music and it is built on previously recorded acoustic demos, augmented with new backing tracks.  ‘The Magic Tree‘ was produced by  Karl Derfler (Tom Waits), and consists of twelve new tracks, eleven of them Forbert songcredits and one is a co-write  with Robert Johnson, digging deep back into Steve Forbert’s folk and blues roots.

Next up is the memoir – co-written with Therese Boyd, it’s called ‘Big City Cat: My Life In Folk Rock‘ and chronicles his life from early musical breaks, playing at CBGB’s with Talking Heads, the early big impact albums ‘Alive on Arrival‘,’Jackrabbit Slim‘, and ‘Little Stevie Orbit‘ which saw him attract the “new-Dylan” tag, and on through the up and downs of his career and the subsequent 15 studio albums (and near countless live releases) as well as the ups and downs in his personal life.   The book will also feature first-person commentary from those who’ve worked with Steve Forbert on the road and in the studio.

You want more?  We’ve got more.  There will also be three UK appearances by Steve Forbert in late October at:

Sunday 21st LONDON, Nell’s Jazz & Blues
Tues 23rd OXFORD, Jericho Tavern
Wed 24th CAMBRIDGE The Robinson Theatre

And really, that should be your lot…except –  here’s the video for one of the tracks from ‘The Magic Tree’.  And that is your lot, you scamps.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
