The latest single from The Two Tracks is a deeply personal song that draws us into the real lives of Julie and Dave Huebner. In Mexico By Friday, The Two Tracks deliver lyrics that take us on an intimate journey to the couple’s special place in Baja. Similarly, the accompanying visual uses real video footage, making the whole thing feel like a series of recollections, of memories presented as video and music. With an insistent strum on the guitar, a sweet solo from Dave, upbeat percussion and melodious bass, the sound is warm and full. Most importantly, Julie Huebner’s voice is brilliantly tuneful and holds the band together, creating the warm music of summers remembered.
Julie says of the song: “What begins as a simple plan, we’ll be in Mexico by Friday, slowly unfolds into something much more intimate. The song tells the story of this hidden little home we built of straw and clay in the desert, where time seems to stop, and the rest of the world falls away. It’s a deeply personal song for me, inspired by the winter trips my husband and I take down to our cob house on the Baja Peninsula.”
Dave explains what it was like putting the video together: “I had fun digitising old Baja trip tapes and going through footage from past trips to put this film together. Baja is a special place, and it was fun and nostalgic to celebrate it in this way.”
The Wyoming band are led by husband-and-wife songwriting duo Julie (guitar) and Dave Huebner (guitar and cello). The quartet also includes the talents of Taylor Phillips on bass and Fernando Serna on drums. Mexico By Friday is the lead single from The Two Tracks’ fifth album, Seasons Unknown. Look out for Seasons Unknown on 5th June 2026; it promises to be an album that balances high-energy performing with reflective roots writing. At the heart of it is the band’s timeless tunefulness and rich vocal performances. Enjoy.
