Video Premiere: Anton & The Colts “Boy Living for the Weekend”

Here is an upbeat, foot-tapping, melodic rocker from Anton & The Colts.  It’s typically bluesy with guitar riffs, harmonica and Anton O’Donnell’s distinctive voice blending for an upfront sound that will be great live (if we’re ever able to do gigs again).  ‘Boy Living for the Weekend’ is out now to stream and download.  Once the pressing-plants are back in business, there will also be a limited edition blue vinyl 7 inch single.  This is the first release since the well-received debut album ‘No End of the Line’ back in 2018.

Anton describes the new single: “There’s a song on our debut record called, ‘Weekend Millionaire’…. I see ‘Boy Living for the Weekend’ as the little brother of that track.”  You may have seen the Glasgow-based band performing at various festivals, including Glastonbury, Millport Country Music Festival and Glasgow Roots Revue.

Anton says of the video: “Back in February… I had a few ideas in mind for the video. The song’s centred around taking things a little too far over a long weekend; my initial idea for the video was to scoot around Glasgow and get some footage of drinking malarkey in various bars, taking in a gig, getting a kebab… the usual weekend craic you could find yourself getting into. But of course, then the corona hit, and threw all that right oot the windae! So now it’s the Quarantine and we need a video…

I was chatting to Neil McKenzie about it (video editor at Keep It Creative here in Glasgow) and he suggested that I do something in the flat with selected shots around the city. To be honest, the whole thing just snowballed! Neil set me up with a GoPro and some studio lights, and after a few Amstel I just dove right into it. One idea just rolled into another with wee flashbacks of some movies creeping in for inspiration – Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, the Hangover, Big Lebowski, Project X and the like.

After four days and nights, and a plateaued beer buzz, I had close to 800 different clips. Poor Neil must have wanted to drop kick me when he realised! Though I’m sure the outtakes and my drunken chat in between scenes kept him amused. Really pleased how it all turned out, and it was an added bonus getting some out-of-work actors roped into the mix for free on the premise of getting them some ‘exposure’. Ha Ha!”

After extensive touring around the USA, Anton O’Donnell has plenty of new songs ready to go.  We can expect a solo album of his new material later this year or early 2021.  Enjoy.
