Check out the new single from London-based Logan J. Parker. Over an engaging, up-tempo groove, Parker’s voice grabs the listener immediately; it’s rich, soulful and surprisingly powerful. Her intense performance reflects the song’s themes of heart-break, vulnerability and the pain of a relationship unravelling. Parker explains: “When I wrote this song I was in a terrible headspace. My first boyfriend had dumped me at the time in a very heart-breaking way. So I was experiencing heart-break for the very first time in my life. As always, writing a song was a tonic for the pain.”
The video, filmed by Adam Dean, was recorded in The Bridge in Shoreditch, a distinctive venue where Parker had a residency before the pandemic put a pause on live music. She takes to the stage and performs for an audience of one: Irish actor Gavin Clarke. Parker edited and colour-graded the video herself, skills she picked up during the enforced isolation of lockdowns. She describes how she become creatively involved with putting the video together: “The pandemic has been exceptionally tough on creatives like myself. Finding myself stuck at home without no place to go, I decided to learn video-editing software and I couldn’t be happier. Next step is to buy a camera and go out filming the world.”
Parker is a multi-instrumentalist who merges various musical styles – country, blues, soul, rock ‘n’ roll – and manages to make music that has a retro feel while also sounding new and fresh. ‘Fragile’ is the latest of several singles released since her 2019 self-titled EP. A talented singer, pianist and guitarist, Logan J. Parker is one to watch. Enjoy.
