Adam Douglas “Build A Fire” – Listen

It’s a metaphor – what Adam Douglas is proposing is to light a fire of desire and passion.  And he makes this proposal with the backing of a funky band and himself in the role of ace guitarist. It grooves.  ‘Build a Fire’ is taken from Adam Douglas’ new album ‘Better Angels.’  The Oklahoman, who now lives in Norway, had planed to hit the States to get the musicians who could fulfil his purpose of  creating an album of American roots music crossed with a mix of both soul music, rock ’n roll, blues, country, rhythm and blues and jazz.  And then…Covid.

So ‘Better Angels‘ was recorded in Norway instead, with a bunch of top Norwegian musicians who were hired to put a big band feel on the album.  One listen to ‘Build a Fire’ is enough to convince that they achieved that aim – and then some.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
