Altameda “Nightmare Town” – lay the gun down

Canadian duo Altameda have released this single in advance of their album ‘Born Losers‘ which is out April 15th, and the protagonists of ‘Nightmare Town‘ have that loser quality about them.  It’s a classic song of being crushed by one’s small town sensibilities, and wanting to bust out and make a new life.  Only, this may not be the way to break freee – if your gal’ suggests shooting her dad with his shotgun  even if toy “know it was a joke but something was going through my head about the power of the gun and what I could do with it.” then you may be heading for a worse nightmare than the town you’re living in.

The upcoming ‘Born Losers’ has a strong sound – it was recorded in Toronto by Thomas D’Arcy (Neko Case, The Sheepdogs) and mixed in Portland by Tucker Martine, which may have something to do with that.  It sees Altameda stake a claim to that elusive college rock sound of the likes of REM.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
