On ‘Don’t Look Back Mary‘ Angela Perley’s writing really gets to the heart of heartbreak, takes that heart and marinades it in melancholy. Desperately slow and aching it paints a vivid picture of stoicism as life turns from bad to worse. And to be sure there’s nothing bright heading this way “Don’t look back, Mary it’s already gone / Kissing strangers lips, breaking promises / Knees bent down on hard surfaces / Don’t look back, Mary it’s already gone / And so are you.” ‘Don’t Look Back Mary‘ is from Perley’s new album, her third, called ‘4:30‘. Why ‘4:30‘ ? Well, seems that Angela Perley is by nature a haunter of the shadows: “4:30 is when my body’s natural sleep cycle begins so if I’m not on a schedule I tend to stay up until then- my creative time begins as soon as the sun goes down. I’m definitely a night owl. I don’t know what it is… but there’s something special about it. It’s dark outside, and it’s quiet ”
