Angela Petrilli was, with Jenny Pagliaro, half of the duo Roses and Cigarettes who were getting some attention a few years ago , including praise from the likes of Jim Lauderdale.  In one of those unpleasant ironic twists, the day after ‘Fast As I Can‘ garnered  a place in Rolling Stone’s 10 Best Country & Americana Songs of the Week the band’s singer Jenny Pagliaro died from stage 4 breast cancer at the age of just 35.

It was a hard blow for Angela Petrilli who recounts her feelings after the event: “I didn’t pick up the guitar for at least a month or two after Jenny died, I just couldn’t do it. It was really hard to listen to or play music. I needed time. I needed to get some perspective, to say goodbye to that part of my life that was gone, and also to figure out what my life was going to look like—and sound like—going forward.

Four years on Angela Petrilli has addressed the loss in the song ‘Ghost Inside A Frame‘, addressing the strange feelings of going on when a loved one’s frozen in time – an image that will never age.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
