You’ll recall, well, we hope you’ll recall – that last Autumn we were highlighting the first singles from Bill Scorzari’s staggered double album release “Sidereal Days” which has been split into “Sidereal Days (Day 1)“, which came out last year, and the companion piece “Sidereal Days (Day 2)” that’ll be out on September 25th this year. That’s quite a long wait, but we can bring you the first single from it right now (and, somewhat redundantly as a declaration, right here).
‘I Stayed‘ is a song of love falling apart and a determination, nonetheless, to carry on. When Scorzari sings, as an act of closure on each verse, “I stayed“, there is a repeated commitment – but there’s also a hint of regretted emotional sacrifice. It’s that slight ambiguity that makes it a song that sneaks in a little further on every listen.
‘I Stayed‘ features Scorzari’s lead vocals and acoustic guitar in a duet with Erin Rae on harmony and “The Shoal’s Sisters”—Marie Lewey and Cindy Richardson Walker—on backing vocals, Juan Solorzano on Pedal Steel, Danny Mitchell (of Miranda Lambert’s band) on piano and Hammond B3 organ, Chelsea McGough on cello, Eamon McLoughlin (The Ryman Staff Fiddler) on violin, Michael Rinne on upright acoustic bass, and album coproducer Neilson Hubbard on drums and percussion.
