‘Cigarette’ is the latest in a series of singles leading up to the new album from Brand New Zeros which will be out in 2021. It sees the band, fronted by singer-songwriter Ronan MacManus and guitarist Luke Dolan, musing not too gently on the nature of addiction in all its myriad and generally destructive forms.
“This song portrays the experience of someone trying to stay sober and clean in the face of an environment of temptation” states MacManus. As it lopes along aggressively, driven by Luke Dolan’s guitar work, there’s a feel that temptation may be going to win out in the end.
