The British Country Music Festival is perhaps a little whatever the opposite of leftfield is for AUK’s audience, but we think it’s worth a shout out as all three of their headliners are women along with three-fifths of the lineup. The organisers have said: “This has not been a deliberate move, they are all there on merit and reflects the impact women are having on the UK Country and Americana scene as opposed to Nashville which is still quite male dominated as far as headliners are concerned. We signed up to PRS Keychange initiative and obviously we have reached our 50:50 male to female balance in our first year.” Which is fantastic news.
The festival takes place in Blackpool’s Winter Gardens from 13th-15th September and includes acts such as Ward Thomas, Catherine McGrath and Sarah Darling. More information and tickets are available via their official website here.
