Damien Jurado “Tom” – Listen

Tom‘ is the second single off  Damien Jurado’s 17th album ‘The Monster Who Hated Pennsylvania‘, the first release from his own Maraqopa Records.  The album is a collection of ten stories of people determined not to be broken by their dire circumstances – although the protagonist of ‘Tom’ must surely be getting close to the limit as he contemplates “would you go nowhere if you had a nowhere to go nowhere to?”  It’s a sparse arrangement, which just adds to the edgy feel of the song – although nothing is truly revealed there’s a persistent sense of something quite terrible about to happen.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
