Exclusive AUK Mini-Gig: Jarrod Dickenson

Since the very beginning of the pandemic, when live music ground to a halt around the world, we’ve been bringing you regular ‘mini-gigs’ from a host of great artists.  These have been opportunities to see musicians up close and personal, performing for you in an intimate setting, often raw and stripped back from their home to yours.  To celebrate my thousandth feature for Americana UK, I’ve asked a couple of my favourite artists to share a miniature show with us; two mini-gigs in one day…it’s almost a mini-festival.

For our first mini-gig today, Jarrod and Claire Dickenson have recorded themselves playing two songs in their Nashville home, exclusively for AUK.  The first, the bluesy ‘Long Hard Look’, is from a long-awaited upcoming album; more details on that soon – we can’t wait to see to see what they have in store.  Then, they perform a fan-favourite: ‘Nothing More’ from ‘Ready the Horses’, which is a timeless classic of an album and a must-listen for anyone interested in Americana.  Over the course of the album, Dickenson blends elements of country, folk and blues in melodic, layered songs that are all compelling from start to finish.  What sets Dickenson apart, both on record and live, is the warmth, depth, character and quality of his vocal performance.  Alongside him, Claire Dickenson possesses an equally fine voice and the combination, when they sing together, can be simply beautiful.  The Dickensons are regular visitors to these shores and attendance at one of their shows is heartily recommended.  While you wait for the next tour, sit back in the comfort of home and absorb this mini-gig, recorded just for you.  Enjoy.
