During the global pandemic, live music has been a little harder to come by than usual. Here at AUK, we have been helping to scratch that itch by posting regular ‘mini-gigs’, giving the opportunity for artists to connect with you music lovers out there. Today, we bring you a great little show from San Diego-based Zach Phillips. Phillips plays two songs with a Californian theme exclusively for AUK.
‘Hey, San Diego’ is like a love song to a place. Then we have ‘Doesn’t Feel Like California’, which is about the wildfires that raged there back in 2018. The songs feature lovely, finger-picking guitar work and Phillips’ smooth voice, which you could listen to all day. Both songs are taken from his brand new album, ‘The Wine of Youth’, which is out now. It’s Phillips’ third album and is a tribute to the state of California. He explains that it celebrates, “…old, weird California…the California of the desert, mountains, spiritualists and lovers. The California that taketh and giveth away, over and over and over again.” Inevitably, for an album focused on California, there are references to natural disasters and it feels strangely relevant right now.
Enjoy the show, folks – the weekend starts here.
What a great performance – love the songs, playing, sounds. Thanks for that!
Best, Jol Rose
